The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) uses two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect access to its systems like email and Canvas. This typically requires users to use their smartphone to authenticate some login attempts using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Directions for Installing and Configuring Microsoft Authenticator

Make sure you have your smartphone and computer/tablet open and ready to go.
On your phone, go to your phone's app store and download the Microsoft Authenticator app from Microsoft. Be sure you get the right one. The icon looks like a blue padlock:
On your phone, open the app and you should see an option for scanning a QR code, stop there. NOTE: The authenticator app must be given permission to access your phone's camera in order to scan the QR code later.
On your computer/tablet, open a web browser and go to: https://alabama.instructure.com
- Login with your A# credentials (A#@alabama.edu and the password you set up for that account).
- Click "Next" until you see a QR code (2 or 3 times).
On your phone, use the scan QR code option to scan the QR code displayed on your computer/tablet. If the capture window is black, the app likely can't access your camera (see #3 above).
On your computer/tablet you'll be presented with a number (typically 2 digits), type that number into the text box provided in the app on your phone.
On your computer/tablet, you'll click "Next" until you're logged into your account.
