What can the Canvas Student app do?

The Canvas Student app can be installed on Apple iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) or Android devices (phones/tablets). The Canvas Student app helps you access your courses when you are away from a computer browser. The app provides functionality to view and participate in a course, as well as view your course calendars, To-Do items, notifications, Conversations messages, and grades.

Notifications are one of the major features of the Canvas Student app. You can control the notifications that are pushed from Canvas to the Canvas Student app by going to your account settings. For example, you can have Canvas push a notice to your app whenever you receive a new message in the Canvas Inbox tool (Conversations) or something is graded.

IMPORTANT - When completing graded work (quizzes/tests/exams, assignments, etc.), please use your desktop/laptop instead of the app on a mobile device.

How do I login to the Canvas Student app?

The easiest way to login is to:

Login to your Canvas account on a desktop/laptop computer
Click the "Account" link in the global navigation menu on the left side of the page (white links on blue background)
Click the "QR for Mobile Login" link
Launch the Canvas Student app on your mobile device and click the "QR Login" button
Scan the QR code on your desktop/laptop computer's screen

To login on the Canvas Student app without using the QR code:

Launch the app on your mobile device
Click the "Find my school" button
Type "ACCS" (without the quotes) which stands for Alabama Community College System
Tap on "ACCS"
Enter your A#@alabama.edu email address and tap the "Next" button
Enter the password for your @alabama.edu account and tap the "Sign In" button

What are the limitations of the Canvas Student app?

Not all Canvas features are supported on the app at this time.
The Canvas Student app uses your device's settings to set the time zone used within the app.
To change the language displayed in the Student app, select a language in Canvas from a web browser, log out of the Student app, and log in again.
